Poseidon's Playground: A Guide to Pontikonisi

Welcome to Pontikonissi, the small islet located just off the coast of Kanoni village in Corfu. This tiny piece of land is a true gem that must be seen by any traveller who visits the island. Legend has it that this islet was a ship turned into stone by Poseidon himself, but we’re not sure about that.

Once you get there, you’ll be amazed by the natural beauty of the island. The crystal-clear waters surrounding it are home to an array of sea life, and the lush vegetation provides the perfect shade for a relaxing afternoon picnic. But watch out for the seagulls! They’re known to be quite territorial around here.

Get Your Greek On: Exploring Pontikonisi and Kanoni Village

Don’t forget to visit the monastery on the top of the hill. It’s been there since the 12th century and offers an impressive view of the surrounding area. But be warned, the climb is steep, so make sure to bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water.

After exploring the islet, head over to Kanoni village for some delicious local food. You can try the famous sofrito, a traditional Corfiot dish made with veal and onions, or the bourdeto, a spicy fish stew. And if you’re feeling adventurous, try the local drink tsipouro – just be careful, it’s quite strong!
